Compress an image under 200 KB

Open Image Compressor

A 200 KB image limit is typical on application forms, marketplace apps, and profile fields that were not built for modern phone cameras. A 12 megapixel JPEG is often 2 to 5 MB. Compression alone can close some of that gap. If the form only displays a small thumbnail, resizing the width down is what actually gets you under 200 KB without turning the face into blocks.

Open Image Compressor, download, and read the size in the file list. If you are at 260 KB, compress that download again or shorten the long edge first with Resize Image and then compress. Guessing from the preview on the page is how people upload a file the form still rejects.

PNG screenshots of text rarely belong in a 200 KB photo slot. Export a JPEG if the form wants a photograph. Keep the original until the upload succeeds. The site processes the image for the request and does not keep it.

Under 200 KB

  1. If the photo is far larger than the form displays, resize the long edge first.
  2. Open Image Compressor and download the smaller file.
  3. Check the size. Repeat on the download if you are still over 200 KB.

FAQ

Why does a second compress help?
You are shrinking the already smaller file, which drops more bytes than repeating the same pass on the original in some cases. Always measure the download.
Is there a watermark?
No watermark is added to the image you download.
